Marking World Wetlands Day on February 2, the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) led a series of mangrove planting campaigns across five coastal regions: Madinah, Aseer, Jazan, Makkah, and the Eastern Region, where more than 10,000 saplings were planted.
According to a press release issued by the NCVC, the initiative drew strong participation from volunteers of all ages, following NCVC’s launch of several volunteer opportunities aimed at engaging local communities in environmental efforts. The campaign highlighted the vital role of wetlands as unique ecosystems that provide natural climate solutions, helping to enhance environmental sustainability and restore ecological balance.
As part of its broader mission, the release added that the NCVC continues to promote awareness of the importance of wetlands and mangrove forests. These coastal forests play a crucial role in preserving biodiversity, serving as rich habitats for marine life, capturing carbon efficiently, and acting as natural barriers against storms and tsunamis.
